It’s been years since Dobbs Ferry Boys Varsity Basketball won a state championship, but with this year’s freshman class and exceptional JV team, the future looks bright. Coached by Connor Cohn, Dobbs Ferry Boys JV basketball team finished the season with a 13-3 record, with losses only coming to larger schools like Nanuet and Scarsdale.
According to 6’5 Freshman Center Peter Geratz, this team was something special since the first 6:00 am practice in November. The team immediately identified its talents and went into the first game with extreme confidence. They ended up beating Hastings by 16, which not only set the tone for, but was one of the strongest wins of the season.
Another highlight of this season was Dobbs Ferry’s performance in the Robert E Maclin Tournament, specifically a win over Carmel (AA School). It was the first time Dobbs Ferry has beaten Carmel in four years. Dobbs Ferry ultimately took home the championship trophy (shown above), which only helped build up momentum for the rest of the season.
All of these fantastic moments contributed to the insane amount of chemistry this group of young men have between each other this season and hope to carry over into Dobbs Ferry Varsity Basketball in the coming years.
